Regional pricing varies by storefront. The announcement, published on the official PlayStation Blog by Bethesda Softworks Senior Content Lead Anne Lewis, confirms the PS5 version ships alongside a major free update called Free Lanes and a new paid story expansion, Terran Armada — both available across all platforms from the same date.

What Launches on 7 April: Three Things at Once

Bethesda is releasing three distinct pieces of content simultaneously with the PS5 launch.

Free Lanes (Free Update — All Platforms)

Free Lanes is the largest free content update Starfield has received and goes live for all players — PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 — on 7 April 2026. Key additions include:

  • Expanded space travel: freely fly between planets within a star system without fast travel gates
  • New space encounters with increased encounter frequency across the Settled Systems
  • New resource giving additional control over gear and ship customisation
  • New Game+ improvements: new options for upgrading Starborn abilities and carrying favourite gear into subsequent playthroughs

Free Lanes touches nearly every major element of the game. Existing players on PC and Xbox receive this update without any additional purchase.

Terran Armada (New Story DLC)

Terran Armada is Starfield’s second major story expansion, following the previously released Shattered Space DLC. The Terran Armada faction deploys an army of advanced robots to impose “unity” across the Settled Systems. The DLC includes:

  • A new story campaign set in the Incursion system
  • A new Companion character
  • New tech rewards earnable through the campaign

Terran Armada is available as a standalone purchase or bundled with the Premium Edition of Starfield. Players who purchased the Premium Edition Upgrade on PC or Xbox are already covered.

Shattered Space (Previously Released DLC — Available on PS5 at Launch)

Shattered Space, Starfield’s first major story DLC, is available on PS5 from 7 April 2026. Whether it is bundled with a specific PS5 edition or sold separately depends on which version players purchase. Bethesda has not detailed a PS5-specific bundle structure beyond confirming the expansion is available from day one.

PS5-Specific Features

DualSense Controller Integration

Starfield uses the PS5 DualSense controller’s hardware features throughout:

  • Adaptive triggers that change resistance based on the weapon equipped — including starship loadouts
  • Light bar tracks player health and ship integrity in real time
  • Touchpad provides instant access to first/third-person POV toggle, map, and hand scanner
  • Controller speaker outputs in-game audio logs and non-local ship intercepts for added immersion

PS5 Pro Support

Starfield has been visually enhanced for PS5 Pro, with two display options:

  • Visual mode: 4K resolution at 30fps
  • Performance mode: improved visuals at 60fps

The Complete, Fully Patched Version

The PS5 version ships with all patches, quality-of-life improvements, and engine updates applied since the original September 2023 launch — over two years of updates. Early Starfield had documented performance concerns on console and quest-progression bugs that have since been resolved. PS5 players are picking up the game at its most stable and content-rich state, not the version that shipped at launch.

What This Means for PS5 Players in Southeast Asia

PlayStation 5 players in Southeast Asia can purchase Starfield through the PlayStation Store from 7 April 2026. Confirmed MYR pricing is not available in the official announcement — check the PlayStation Store MY listing closer to launch for regional pricing. Regional pricing varies by storefront.

The game supports localisation for major Southeast Asian markets through subtitle options. Bethesda’s save system supports multiple playthroughs, with New Game Plus unlocked after completing the main questline.

What Happens to Existing PC and Xbox Players

From 7 April 2026, Starfield is a multiplatform title. PC players on Steam and Xbox Series X|S owners retain their existing saves and continue as normal — the PS5 launch does not affect existing platform versions. The Free Lanes update delivers new content to all existing players on launch day at no cost.

For anyone who held off on Starfield specifically because it was not on PlayStation: the game is a space RPG with over 1,000 planets to explore, a character build system built around skills and five distinct skill trees, and a main questline Bethesda estimates at 30–40 hours — before side content, faction storylines, and exploration account for the bulk of most players’ time. The Trackers Alliance bounty arc — seven unique high-value targets across the Settled Systems — is also available for purchase through the in-game Creations menu at launch.

This shift follows Sony’s broader platform strategy, which has seen significant changes in its first-party approach in recent years. For context on how major publishers are thinking about platform exclusivity and AI-driven development, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick’s comments on generative AI offer a useful industry benchmark.
