Gearbox Software has confirmed C4sh the Rogue as a new DLC Vault Hunter coming to Borderlands 4 on 26 March 2026 — the same date as the base game — as part of Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. C4sh is a former CasinoBot with three luck-based skill trees, no Capstones, and an Augment-stacking mechanic that makes him the most mechanically distinct Vault Hunter in the franchise. The reveal was authored by Tommy Westerman, Senior Character Designer at Gearbox Software, and published on the PlayStation Blog on 16 March 2026.

Pre-launch notice: This article was published on 21 March 2026 based on official reveal materials. All gameplay details, pricing, and availability are subject to change ahead of and after the 26 March launch.

Who Is C4sh the Rogue

C4sh the Rogue is the first DLC Vault Hunter confirmed for Borderlands 4 and the first new Vault Hunter to be announced as part of a Borderlands 4 paid Story Pack. He is a CasinoBot — a robot class previously absent from Borderlands 4’s base roster of Rafa the Exo-Soldier, Harlowe the Gravitar, and two additional base Vault Hunters — whose entire combat identity is built around manipulating probability in real time.

According to Tommy Westerman, Senior Character Designer at Gearbox Software, C4sh’s origins began with “the idea of a CasinoBot who’s obsessed with numbers and probability, but the exciting hook for us was C4sh’s desire to seek out eldritch trinkets that completely upend mathematical chances.”

C4sh’s Lore: The Deck of Kanansi

C4sh is a former CasinoBot who spent his existence gaming the solar system’s casinos and battlefields using statistical insights. His character shift occurred when he won the Deck of Kanansi — a magical card deck — in a high-stakes game. Winning that deck gave him a taste for the unpredictable. He is now a drifter chasing the probability-breaking highs of cursed eldritch artifacts, and a career in Vault hunting is his way of betting on himself in the highest-stakes environment possible.

The lore positions C4sh as the gambler archetype — not the sneak-attacking rogue, but the card player who wins because he knows how to manipulate the odds. This design decision was a deliberate contrast to the base Borderlands 4 roster, where archetypes lean toward defined combat roles.

C4sh’s Skill Trees and Mechanic: How RNG Differs From Other Vault Hunters

C4sh has three skill trees, each named after a different gambling mechanic and tied to a specific Action Skill:

Skill Tree Action Skill Play Focus
Chaos Walking Cross-Fire Dual revolvers, ricochet damage, crits, kinetic output
Luck of the Draw Sleight of Hand Draw random cards for temporary buffs, elemental effects, shields
Roll the Bones Cleromancy Summon random totems, ally buffs, co-op synergy

The core mechanical departure from other Vault Hunters: C4sh’s skill trees contain no Capstone abilities. Instead, each tree includes a skill called Devil’s Tines that grants an additional Augment slot. By investing across all three trees and unlocking all three Devil’s Tines skills, C4sh can equip up to four Augments simultaneously — versus the standard two available to base Vault Hunters.

Augment count directly controls RNG variance. More Augments produce more variable, potentially more powerful outcomes. Fewer Augments reduce randomness, making C4sh more predictable for players who want consistent co-op contribution. This is the key build decision for the Rogue class: high-chaos maximum-Augment builds versus lower-variance focused builds.

Windfall is C4sh’s passive trait. It randomly triggers a boosted state after reloading from an empty magazine or activating an Action Skill, enhancing all active abilities when it fires.

Westerman confirmed in the PlayStation Blog reveal that “C4sh’s skills range from not-very-random to absolutely random, but what’s key is that you’re always able to influence that randomness, preserving the thrill of relying on luck while ensuring it’s on the player’s side.”

C4sh’s no-Capstone design follows a franchise tradition of DLC characters breaking class rules. Borderlands 2’s Gaige introduced stack mechanics; Krieg inverted FPS combat logic; Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’s Aurelia was built for co-op dependency. C4sh joins that lineage.

What We Know About Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned

Story Pack 1 is the first of two paid post-launch content packs confirmed for Borderlands 4. It was first shown at the Tokyo Game Show 2025 panel and launches on 26 March 2026 — simultaneous with the base game.

Mad Ellie is the antagonist. The character is a returning figure from the Borderlands franchise — fans will recognise Ellie as the mechanic and Scooter’s sister from Borderlands 2. The “Mad” designation and the DLC’s title suggest a changed or corrupted version of the character, though the full narrative framing has not been detailed in pre-launch materials.

The Vault of the Damned is located in a new zone within Kairos — the planet that serves as the primary setting of Borderlands 4. Story Pack 1 adds at least one new map zone to Kairos’s explorable area.

Confirmed Story Pack 1 content:
– New main missions and side missions set in the new Kairos zone
– C4sh the Rogue as a playable Vault Hunter (accessible across all Borderlands 4 story content and zones when owned)
– New Legendary weapons and gear
– New boss fights
– New cosmetics to collect
– New activities and collectibles

Story Pack 1 is included with the Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition and the Vault Hunter Pack. It will also be available for separate purchase. A second Story Pack has been confirmed but not yet detailed.

Community Coverage: What Creators Covered Before Launch

Three prominent Borderlands content creators published dedicated C4sh coverage following the PlayStation Blog reveal on 16 March 2026:

  • Moxsy published a 36-minute full skill tree breakdown — “C4SH FULL REVEAL! New Action Skills & Skill Tree…” — covering action skill mechanics and build potential in depth (YouTube, 17 March 2026)
  • AbbyHour published a 20-minute skill tree reveal video — “Vault Hunter C4SH Skill Tree REVEALED! New Info about…” — with specific Augment stacking analysis (YouTube, 17 March 2026)
  • Joltzdude139 published two videos: a 7-minute initial reveal reaction (“Vault Hunter C4SH + Mad Ellie DLC Have Been Revealed In…”) and an 18-minute build analysis (“C4SH Might Be The Most BROKEN Vault Hunter In…”) covering synergy potential (YouTube, 17 March 2026)

All four videos are available on YouTube for players who want full skill tree detail before making a purchase decision on Story Pack 1. The community consensus from pre-launch coverage is that C4sh’s no-Capstone design creates unusually high build ceiling, with Joltzdude139’s analysis in particular flagging potential for overpowered synergies at high Augment count.

What Borderlands 4 Players Need to Know Before 26 March

C4sh the Rogue is a DLC purchase on top of the base game. The Rogue class is not accessible without Story Pack 1 ownership, via either the standalone DLC, the Vault Hunter Pack, or the Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition.

  • PS5 players: Check PlayStation Store MY from 26 March for MYR pricing on the base game and Story Pack 1
  • PC players: Check Steam Malaysia from 26 March — the Epic Games Store is the second PC storefront option
  • Super Deluxe Edition bundles the base game, Vault Hunter Pack (both Story Packs), Bounty Pack Bundle, and Ornate Order Pack cosmetics
  • Day-one access: C4sh is playable across all Borderlands 4 story content and zones from launch, not restricted to the new DLC zone

GamesHarbour will publish a full class breakdown for C4sh — including skill tree analysis and MYR pricing — once the game launches on 26 March 2026.
