Metro 2039 is real. 4A Games and Deep Silver have officially confirmed the next entry in the Metro series, with a full reveal locked in for April 16 at the Xbox First Look event.

The rumours were accurate. After weeks of fan speculation sparked by domain registrations and social media teases, the studio has put a name to it.

Metro 2039 Confirmed by 4A Games and Deep Silver

The announcement came on April 13, 2026, via PC Gamer — 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver confirmed Metro 2039 as the next game in the Metro franchise. No gameplay footage, no platform breakdown, and no release window have been shared yet. The April 16 Xbox First Look event is where all of that will land.

What the Title Tells Us

The Metro series has always encoded its timeline in its titles. Metro 2033 was set in 2033. Metro: Last Light continued that year. Metro Exodus moved beyond the Moscow Metro tunnels entirely. Metro 2039 places the new game six years after Metro 2033 in the series’ internal chronology — though whether 4A Games is running a strict timeline or using the number more symbolically is something the April 16 reveal will presumably address.

4A Games’ Track Record

4A Games is the Kyiv-founded studio that built all three previous Metro entries. Metro Exodus (2019) was the series’ largest and most ambitious release — it moved away from linear tunnel-based FPS design toward open-world chapter environments, earned strong critical reception on PC and console, and maintained a dedicated player base through its Enhanced Edition update and two DLC expansions, Sam’s Story and The Two Colonels. The studio has deep experience with the 4A Engine and the post-apocalyptic Moscow setting established by Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels.

What We Know About Metro 2039 So Far

Confirmed: the game exists and is called Metro 2039. Deep Silver is publishing. 4A Games is developing.

Not yet confirmed: platforms, release window, gameplay details, story setup, whether Artyom returns as protagonist, or whether the game continues Exodus’s open-world approach or returns to a tighter structure.

The Xbox First Look event on April 16, 2026 is the first reveal. Expect a trailer at minimum. Gameplay may follow at a later showcase.

What SEA PC Players Should Know

Metro Exodus had a strong PC player base across Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand, where deep narrative shooters with high-end PC visuals have a consistent audience. Metro 2039 is being revealed first at an Xbox event, which puts Xbox Series X and PC front and centre for the initial announcement — an encouraging sign for regional PC players who follow the series on Steam.

Steam pricing for Metro titles in Malaysia has historically been competitive. No MYR pricing has been announced for Metro 2039 yet — check the Steam Malaysia store page once the game is officially listed.

The April 16 reveal is three days away. Set a reminder.

What Comes Next

April 16, 2026 — full reveal at Xbox First Look. Watch the Xbox YouTube channel or Steam broadcast for the announcement.

After the reveal, expect platform confirmation, a release window, and the first look at what 4A Games has built since Exodus. Whether the studio continues in the open-world direction or returns to the claustrophobic tunnel corridors that defined the first two games is the question the community is most interested in.

GamesHarbour will cover the full reveal as it happens on April 16.
