High on Life 2 misses its April 20 Switch 2 launch — the game now arrives on July 1, 2026. Developer Squanch Games has confirmed the delay, citing a need for additional production polish. Digital preorders placed via the Nintendo eShop have been automatically canceled. Physical preorders remain in place and will ship in July.

Squanch Games Confirms the 4/20 Launch Is Off
High on Life 2 now launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on July 1, 2026. Squanch Games announced the shift on March 23, moving the release from its original April 20 date by approximately ten weeks.
In an official statement, Squanch Games said: “As the Squanch Games team continues to champion delivering the highest quality experiences, we have elected to (slightly) delay the release of High On Life 2 for Nintendo Switch 2. The additional elbow grease towards production will ultimately allow the studio to better meet not only our high standards for gaming, but yours as well.”
April 20 was clearly a deliberate date choice for a game built around the kind of comedy that makes a point of winking at its own jokes. Dropping that launch hook tells you Squanch Games decided the extra development time mattered more than the bit. Fan reaction across Reddit and Nintendo community forums zeroed in on the loss of the date gag almost as much as the delay window itself — a clear sign the studio had built genuine anticipation around the 4/20 hook. The most common sentiment: frustration at a joke cut short, acceptance of a firm July date.
The New Date: July 1, 2026
High on Life 2 is confirmed for July 1, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2. The delay is specific to the Nintendo Switch 2 version — High on Life 2 on Switch 2 absorbs the shift; PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions are unaffected, having launched on February 13, 2026.
What Happens to Preorders
Digital preorders placed through the Nintendo eShop will be automatically canceled following the delay. Physical preorders are not affected and will be shipped in July once the game releases. Players who placed digital preorders should expect a refund to their account.
Note: the Nintendo Switch 2 physical release is a Game-Key Card, not a traditional game cartridge.
What Switch 2 Owners Should Do Now
With a July 1 date confirmed, Switch 2 players have around ten weeks before the sequel arrives.
The original High on Life (Squanch Games, 2022) built a following on PC and Xbox for its alien weaponry, absurdist humour, and voice performances. That audience carries over — and July gives anyone who has not played the first game a clean window to catch up before High on Life 2 lands. High on Life 2 on PS5, Xbox, and PC has already been reviewed, with GameSpot awarding it a 7/10.
High on Life 2 lands in July as a summer title for Switch 2 owners — a competitive month, but one with a confirmed date rather than an open window.
What SEA Players Should Know
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order interest across Southeast Asia has been solid. SEA players who had plans around the original 4/20 date now have a confirmed timeline: July 1, 2026. Pricing for High on Life 2 on Nintendo Switch 2 has not been confirmed for the MY region — check the Nintendo eShop MY closer to the July 1 launch for MYR pricing. Regional pricing varies by storefront.
What Comes Next
Squanch Games has not indicated whether a more specific pre-launch window update is planned ahead of July 1. Watch the studio’s official channels for any further news.
