Electronic Arts has confirmed that Battlefield Hardline’s console multiplayer servers will shut down on June 22, 2026, with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One digital storefronts removing the game and all in-game purchases on May 22.
The 2015 cops-and-robbers FPS from the now-defunct Visceral Games — also known for the Dead Space franchise — was one of the most divisive entries in the Battlefield series. Its release landed amid heightened real-world debates around police use of force in the United States, and the game’s law enforcement theme drew significant criticism that followed it throughout its lifecycle.
EA Sets Two Firm Deadlines: May 22 and June 22
EA announced the shutdown via its official Battlefield Comms account, stating:
“On Friday, May 22nd, Battlefield Hardline on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be removed from digital storefronts, and you will no longer be able to purchase it and all extra related content, such as DLC. Online services on these platforms will end on Monday, June 22nd.”
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| May 22, 2026 | Game removed from PS4 and Xbox One digital storefronts; DLC and Battlepacks no longer purchasable |
| June 22, 2026 | Multiplayer servers go offline on PS4 and Xbox One |
The two-stage timeline gives players approximately one month between losing access to purchase content and losing access to online play entirely.
What Is Permanently Lost
Once servers shut down on June 22, online multiplayer — the game’s primary selling point at launch — will be gone from consoles. Modes including Heist, Blood Money, and Hotwire, which gave Hardline its distinct asymmetric cops-versus-criminals identity, will no longer be accessible online.
Any Battlepacks, premium content, or DLC not purchased before May 22 will become permanently unavailable.
Single-Player Campaign Remains Intact
EA’s announcement explicitly confirmed that the single-player component is unaffected:
“While Hardline will no longer support online functionality on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, players who own the game will still be able to play the single-player component.”
The offline story campaign following undercover detective Nick Mendoza will continue to function on both consoles.
What Console Players Stand to Lose
Battlefield Hardline, released in March 2015, is being retired more than 11 years after launch. At its height, the game featured a multiplayer suite built around asymmetric gameplay that separated it from the core Battlefield formula — but that distinction never translated into long-term player retention.
EA cited player population as the reason for the shutdown, noting in its general EOL policy that servers are wound down when active players fall to “typically fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles.” On Steam, SteamDB data shows Hardline reached an all-time peak of just 292 concurrent players, with roughly 10 active at any given time as of March 2026 — numbers that reflect the state of the console versions as well.
Players still holding an active copy on PS4 or Xbox One should mark both deadlines: May 22 for any remaining store purchases, and June 22 for the final server shutdown.
PC Version Not Affected
EA’s announcement explicitly excludes the PC version:
“Please note: Today’s update does not impact PC. Battlefield Hardline on PC will remain available, including online services.”
Battlefield Hardline on PC remains available on Steam and the EA App. Whether EA will eventually sunset the PC version has not been announced.
For Battlefield fans in the region, the more relevant question is what comes next in the franchise. Battlefield 6 has been in active development at multiple EA studios. The Hardline shutdown is a standard end-of-lifecycle move for a title with a sub-1% active player base and carries no signal about the broader franchise direction.
