Developer Crema Games has announced Temtem: Pioneers, an open-world survival crafting game built on the Temtem universe and pitched directly at the creature-collector survival genre that Palworld made mainstream. There is no release date yet, but the game is already on Steam and the Epic Games Store for wishlisting, and a Kickstarter campaign is live now.

The announcement came during the Triple-I Initiative showcase, where Crema unveiled the game as “an ambitious open-world survival crafting adventure” — their words, and a fairly accurate description of what they’re building.

What Temtem: Pioneers Actually Is

Your airship, the Narwhal, crashes in an untamed frontier region called the Downbelow — far from the Archipelago where the original Temtem is set. From there, you collect creatures, build a base, fight in real time, and figure out how to survive.

Crema is promising over 200 Temtem to collect, split between familiar faces from the original game and new species native to the Downbelow. Each creature brings traversal abilities to the table — some glide, some can surf water — so your roster determines how you move through the world, not just how you fight in it.

Combat is real-time action. You control up to three Temtem simultaneously, switching between them during fights to chain abilities, dodge attacks, and build combos. That’s a meaningful departure from Temtem’s original turn-based system, and it’s where Crema is making its biggest mechanical bet.

How This Compares to Palworld

The comparison is unavoidable, and Crema isn’t avoiding it. Temtem: Pioneers hits the same genre marks as Palworld: creature capture, survival resource gathering, base building, and exploration using your creatures’ abilities.

The key difference is in combat. In Palworld, players fight alongside their Pals using their own weapons — you are the combatant, creatures are support. In Temtem: Pioneers, you directly control your Temtem in fights. You play as the creature team, not beside it. Whether that distinction matters to players in practice is the real question, but it’s a legitimate design choice, not just feature overlap.

For context: Palworld peaked at over 2 million concurrent players on Steam at launch in early 2024 and remained a consistent presence in SEA gaming circles well into 2025. The creature-collector survival genre has genuine demand. Crema is going after a proven audience.

Platforms and the Kickstarter Situation

Temtem: Pioneers is announced for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. No console versions have been confirmed.

Crema has launched a Kickstarter campaign alongside the announcement. The goal is US$104,965 — a modest target by development standards. As of the announcement, the campaign had raised US$42,913, placing it at roughly 40% of the goal. That number will move as the Triple-I showcase reaches more viewers.

The Kickstarter framing is notable. Crema describes it as an opportunity to “rally the community and co-create this exciting new game,” which reads less as financial desperation and more as an early-community-building exercise. The studio shipped Temtem in full as a 1.0 release in 2022 after a successful Early Access run, so they have the track record.

What This Means for SEA Players

Temtem: Pioneers doesn’t have a release date. It’s in the announcement stage, wishlist available, Kickstarter running. But the genre it’s entering is one that SEA players responded to hard — Palworld was everywhere in gaming cafes and on mobile discussion boards in Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines in 2024.

If Crema delivers on the creature-control combat system and the 200-creature roster, Temtem: Pioneers has the ingredients to pull players who wanted more depth from Palworld. Whether the Kickstarter campaign translates into a full development cycle remains to be seen.
